Film Geographies invites submissions of short films for the RGS-IBG annual conference responding to the annual theme. This year it is ‘Geographies of inequalities: towards just places

We invite short films (20 mins or less) that speak to the theme, particularly films that address ‘spatial inequalities and injustices …relating to society, culture and politics, to the economy, and community, and to development, climate and the environment.

We also welcome films that showcase ‘the role of geography in making a difference beyond the academy, in informing policy or practice about specific inequalities or injustices, in engaging in activism, campaigning or advocacy work to resist or overcome injustices, in engaging diverse public audiences with such work, or in offering practical solutions to the challenges of inequalities.”

The theme also speaks to reflexive work on our role as the extractors of knowledge when carrying out research and concerns about the worsening state of precarity in the academy more broadly, whether related to redundancies, the mis-use of fixed term contracts, and the closing of departments focusing on equality, diversity and inclusion.

What kind of film? We accept any Format/genre: ethnographic, fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, interactive, immersive, participatory etc (Note we cannot accept or review any films made solely to promote a course, department or institution)   When submitting please state whether your film is 1. Completed film2. Work In Progress 3. Student Film Length < 5 mins or 5-20 mins

Deadline: 31 March 2026
