The International Labor Organization estimates that 28 million people worldwide live in modern slavery. In Huelva, Spain, similar conditions affect agricultural workers who pick berries for the European market. Half of them are migrants from Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America who endure harsh working conditions, precarious housing and lack of health care. The film portrays the daily struggles of several migrant workers and a geographer's ethnographic research on the industry's health effects and working conditions. Interviews with union representatives, journalists, politicians and academics highlight the need for social and environmental reforms to ensure sustainable and humane berry production.
