Since 2015, there has been a growing movement to improve the accessibility of citizens to public spaces across Cairo. These initiatives have helped to change the mindset of the government, the local community, the NGOs, etc., which allowed them, alongside artists, designers and the general Cairenes, to reclaim the right to use such sites. This short documentary highlights two contrasting areas within the Greater Cairo Region, one located at the heart of the metropolitan capital while the other is isolated from the rest of the main urban fabric. From destroying palm trees and public parks to installing high-rise towers within historic sites, this short film presents the overlapping struggles of local communities having different social contexts.
