Now in its seventh year Film Geographies invites submissions of short films about space and place for the AAG 2023. What makes a film geographical? For us a geographical film is a film that explores our relationship to our environment, a film that is place-based, and where that ‘place’, often dismissed as ‘background’ in other films, is treated like a character in its own right with agency and voice. (Jacobs and Palis, 2020)
Toward More Just Geographies
This year our call asks you to speak to the conference theme of Toward More Just Geographies. How can film and film-making contribute to this aim? We therefore particularly welcome films ‘that examine ecologies and habitats through the lens of inclusiveness, equity, diversity, and justice’.
What kind of film?
While we prefer short films as this allows us to screen more of your works, we accept any format/genre: ethnographic, fiction, documentary, animation, experimental, interactive, immersive, participatory etc.
