Tacoma Washington
Neighborhood explores the connections between gentrification and settler colonialism in the historically Black neighborhood of Hilltop, through a BIPOC lens. Hilltop is located in the heart of Tacoma, WA which is on the stolen ancestral lands of the Puyallup Tribe and Coast Salish territories.
I created this film as a fellow in the Hilltopia Narrative Justice film fellowship which focused on trauma informed filmmaking. I filmed and edited this project myself and interviewed valued members of my community and the Tacoma community in general. The goal in the approach of making this film was to tell a story about a neighbored that I love as a resident of the neighborhood rather than an outsider.
